On January 26th we made a very early departure from Bocas del Toro by water taxi followed by a 12 hour bus ride through the rain forests and over the continental divide and the Panama Canal back to Panama City.

We stayed in a place in Casco Viejo, the old historic district. Ritchard was thrilled to find that our place was directly across an alley (Caye Boquette) from La Rana Dorada (the Golden Frog) brew pub which he had targeted to visit. Even better, at night Caye Boquette was turned into a beer garden which our room overlooked!

We had one full day to explore Casco Viejo which has lots of shops, restaurants, and bars, with a pretty vibrant nightlife. As we now know, it was a good warm up for the old town in Cartagena (see future installment on that).
